“To the editor, Thank you for your cover photo of Bruce Ratner that appeared in the same issue as a full-page ad for his Barclays Center (“Dig it,” March 12). I have elderly cats who cannot always make it into the actual litter box, and I have to line the floor with paper for these times. The large ad works well for the cat who is most ill, since it’s a full page to hit. My other cat prefers target practice, however, and your front page picture of Ratner has successfully been targeted many times in both liquid and solid form, if you catch my drift. I have long been a fan of The Brooklyn Paper, and although Atlantic Yards coverage has been scant of late, this issue makes up for it. The cats have not had as much fun since we had all those Bloomberg ads showing up in the mail last fall. Steve de Sève, Brooklyn Heights”

Things Learned on Vacation

Things the Miss learned on vacation (in Bocas Del Toro, Panama):

  • She requires wine at night, coffee in the morning, and a lots of laughter in between.
  • Above requirements require various cups not being dumped.
  • She prefers electricity at night, but morning can be useful as well, though far less important.
  • Sound travels FAR and loud and thus one should be ware the “silent island”  that rests across from the slightly larger island that has the horrific “thumping bass” bar.
  • She is a pretty good cook, with Macgyver type skillz. Recipes will only trip her up.
  • She is a pretty good cook for groups of 5 and up.
  • She is a pretty good cook when limits are limited.
  • Survival with out email for 6 days is possible.
  • Sleeping through unbelievably loud albeit far away bass, or repetitive crickets is much more difficult and less preferred over intermittent honks, traffic, babies crying or the screeches of the neighborhood drunk.
  • She is gullible.
  • She can be gullible but so what.
  • She affects weather patterns. As such she has been called Magneto.
  • If there are animals to be seen, she won’t.  (damn you monkeys, sloths and dolphins, donde??)
  • She will eat most anything but definitely not live termites, no matter how salty.
  • Throwing the toilet paper into the bowl is a hard habit to break.
  • She thinks all (even her own) idiosyncrasies should be seen as HILARIOUS, and a necessity for survival.
  • A visual of any animal on a bicycle is HILARIOUS.
  • She has infinite patience for somethings, and infinite impatience for others.
  • Sometimes the above can manifest itself HILARIOUSLY.
  • Geckos are loud.
  • Patacones and a cold beer, while overlooking the water is duhlicious!
  • Walking by the water where hundreds of crabs quickly crawl back into their holes, is pretty freakin’ cool.
  • Taking walks by oneself, is important.
  • Panamanians have infectious smiles.
  • If you consistently have to tell us how “awesome” your humus is, it probably isn’t.
  • The owner of the Cosmic Crab, was a bit like the Celine Dion of Hummus.
  • She is at peace when floating on her back in salty waters.
  • Not so much on her stomach.
  • Pineapple through a garlic press, can create fruitful juices!
  • When the odds are higher, bugs will in fact finally bite her.
  • She luvs riding on the very front of a boat.
  • She is prone to buying food products, and body products made from food products.
  • If your eyes are bad enough, everything looks like a dolphin.
  • The sound of palm tree leaves swaying, is a pleasant one.
  • Relaxing is a skill, to be learned.
  • Americans have lots of things.
  • The Panama City airport terminal seriously needs  a gum/magazine etc. shop!
  • Open coconuts found on the beach taste good dipped in the salt water ( surprising!).
  • First Class is stupid!
  • First Class is stupid, because we take the one place where equality might exist, and destroy it.
  • Being mysteriously placed in First Class on your flight home, is pretty cool, though she would have preferred the aisle seat…
